New Westminster Secondary School replacement project

The New Westminster Secondary School replacement project was a project of vision to fuse students together learning collaboratively through academics, trades and the arts. This state of the art 175,00 square foot school was designed by KMBR Architects to change the way people think of schools with glass walls for classrooms, wide open corridors for gathering and huge social spaces such as the grand commons.

Making up one of the provinces largest and most modern schools is not just classrooms, but a 280 seat theatre, drama room, band room dance studio, choir room and rooms totally dedicated to the trades such as a culinary learning kitchen, wood shop, mechanics shop, electrical and plumbing shop.

This is one of the provinces largest and modern schools. A school of this size and magnitude was one of our companies highlight projects. With complex details and specifications it was unique to integrate all of the exterior framing and envelope into a product that will stand the test of time. This type of design allows a lot of natural light into the building showcasing the wall and ceiling trade’s finish products, from soaring drywall walls and bulkheads to the beautiful acoustic Tee bar and tile ceilings, and the integration of the wood slat ceilings.
