Timber Grove

Timber Grove “Olympic Legacy”

Olympic Athlete Housing converted to affordable rental studio apartments for seniors and people with disabilities at-risk of homelessness.

This project won the 2012 International award for Best Modular Building in North America.

This amazing structure began life as modular ‘trailers’ created to house the Olympic Athletes in Whistler BC during the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games. After the games the units were relocated to their present home in Surrey., BC., where they were reconfigured and fully renovated, creating this wonderful 52 unit housing complex for those most in need of affordable, safe and accessible housing.

The Timber Grove Apartments were developed through a partnership between the Province, of British Columbia, the City of Surrey, Fraser Health and are operated by Coast Mental Health (CMH).

This was a relatively large project for us because we took on so many aspects of construction, including: the complete exterior rainscreen system, which included membrane, flashing, windows and cementious siding/trim; and the complete interior wall/ceiling package including steel stud framing, drywall w/finish, acoustic walls and ceilings.

This was a difficult project mostly because it was unique in almost every aspect from start to finish – but what a satisfying result!

Work performed by Peninsula Wall + Ceiling: Steel framing; insulation; acoustical suspended ceilings; high-end wooden suspended ceilings; high-end wooden walls; drywall; tape and fill.
